Matt Sterling, BA, CCP-C, Instructor/Coordinator
From northern Michigan. An avid outdoor enthusiast who enjoys downhill skiing, water-based activities, mountain biking, hiking, and outdoor adventuring.
23 years of experience as a practicing firefighter and paramedic, operating in both an extremely rural, and urban settings. A board-certified critical care paramedic, career firefighter with extensive experience and certifications in multiple areas of technical rescue, operates as a Tactical Medic with the regional Special Response Team, and has over 10 years as Adjunct Faculty with the Lansing Community College teaching Paramedics as a State Licensed Instructor. During the winter, maintains his Outdoor Emergency Care certification as an active alpine Patroller with over 15 years volunteering the National Ski Patrol, and additionally has over 20 years volunteering with the State of Michigan Special Olympics Medical team for both Summer and Winter State Games.
A large portion of his summers during high school and college were working with the Youth Camping programs associated with the Hemophilia Foundation of Michigan (HFM). Recently returning as medical and waterfront safety staff for the summer Camping programs in 2022, as well as other weekend youth development programs.
Sarah Spencer, MPA, RN, BSN
Registered nurse – Licensed in Michigan and Florida, ACLS and PALS certified.
2 decades of experience including Public Health nursing, policy reform, experience extends into executive health care administration with a passion for streamlining processes and emergency preparedness.
Camping Programs Health Officer for the Hemophilia Foundation of Michigan
Previous adjunct faculty in the nursing program at Western Michigan University and in public administration at Grand Valley State University.
Enjoys her horses, trail biking, kayaking and outdoor adventuring. Most recent being an 80-mile trek over the Austrian alps. Additionally in her spare time she enjoys volunteering on the National Ski Patrol.
